notes: -only native appleshail in the US (Rawlings et al. 2007) -the largest freshwater snail in North America; up to 60 mm (Burch 1989) -Dall reported the species from "Texas" in 1889 but Singley (1893) observed that "Texas" to Dall meant anything from the Mississippi Delta to the Rio Grande and on to Yucatan; Strecker (1935) did not list the species in Texas (from Neck 1986) -Fullington (1978) reported the species from Cameron County but Neck (1976) believes that record is probably P. canaliculata. Rawlings et al. (2007) note the species in Florida and Alabama, but does not mention Texas. |
